It is one thing to review a Network Marketing company, but it is another skill entirely to be able to see through the bullshit and the hype, so you can spot a quality opportunity verses a scam or a company that probably won’t make it off the ground.  Here is the criteria one should use when evaluating a network marketing opportunity.

These are in no particular order of importance

  1. Who are you looking at joining with?  This is of tremendous importance.  Do you like and trust the person you are looking at getting into business with?  One doesn’t need to join a guru, but they do want to make sure that they are a part of a winning team.  We are in a relationship business.
  2. Is there support if I need Help?  If you are a guru, this one isn’t as important to you because you can be the help, but lets face it, most network marketers need help.  Is there a system in place that helps a new person be able to have success.  If your sponsor is not a big leader, can they get you access to them?  Good mentorship programs will be vital to your MLM success.
  3. How do I make money? There are a couple of different schools of thought on this one, but hey, lets face it, we got into this game to make some cash, right?  There are actually several types of income that are important for a quality compensation plan.  First, it is important to be able to make money fast.  We don’t live in a patient society anymore where people have to become an expert and then start getting checks.  The ability for a compensation plan to pay well during the building phase, AND provide great residuals is what you are looking for.
  4. Does the product have first mover advantage? First mover advantage isn’t necessary, it just helps a lot.   If the product isn’t unique, it is a lot harder to move, mainly because there is so much competition in the market place.  “Me Too” companies can get quite large, but they rarely capture the same market share that the first company to move the product has.
  5. How old is the company? There are a c0uple of ways to look at this.  Older companies are more established, younger companies are often growing faster.  If an opportunity is less than 3 years old, it is a general rule to stay away from it unless you have done a serious amount of research.  I happen to be marketing for a company that is only a year old, but they are debt free, well funded, already profitable, has first mover advantage for the product, an awesome compensation plan, and they were started by exceptional leadership.  If this company didn’t have all of these features, I probably would have looked for an opportunity that was a little bit more established.  Nobody wants to build a huge downline just to have the company go out of business, or decide not to do network marketing.
  6. That brings us to corporate leadership, and field leadership.  Both are tremendously important.  There should be network marketing experience on the corporate side of the business.  Great businessmen don’t always make great network marketers and vice versa.  Would you pay your money to take vocal lessons from Mariah Carrey, or Brad Pitt?  Both are successful entertainers right?  Network marketing is a different niche market than traditional business, and both the corporateand field leadership should reflect it.
  7. Is there a market for what I am selling? In a legal network marketing business, we get paid on the sale of products, not sign up fees.  If nobody wants your product then whats the point?  Personally, I ask myself this question, “Would I buy this at the price I am paying if I wasn’t in the opportunity?”  And, “Am I better off for having this product or service?”  Or, “Is there someone that will be better off by this product or service that I can market to?”

All Network Marketing companies are NOT created equal.  Don’t just dive into the first thing that you see.  When picking an opportunity, it is important to know what you are getting into.  A good leader can make money with most products and compensation plans… however, wouldn’t it be nice to make it easier on yourself?  Using this criteria will help you in choosing the right company for you.  Honestly, the same company is not going to be the right one for everybody.  I’ve reviewed hundreds of companies and balanced all of these factors in choosing my primary company, so if you are looking for something right now, you might want to check this out.
