Mark Visser, Will Smith: The Definition of Awesome

This is seriously No Joke; if you can watch this video and not be inspired, there is probably something wrong with you:

Are not Mark Visser and Will Smith The Definition of Awesome? If you haven’t yet, watch that video, because it is Fucking Incredible.

Everyone in America knows who Will Smith is, but I know a lot of you have no idea who Mark Visser is, so I will give you the basics.

Mark Visser, A.K.A “The Night Rider,” is a 28 year old, Australian Born, Professional big-wave surfer.  His job consists of hunting down and riding some of the biggest waves on the planet. Mark is an extraordinary athlete, is in Amazing Shape,  and can hold his breath underwater for over six minutes.  His main goal is to do things that no one thought were possible.

Mark has spent the last two years aiding in the development of the technology that made it possible for him to Surf “Jaws” at Night.  Jaws is a world renowned Big Wave Surfing spot on Maui.  From the looks of the wave in this footage, it had at least a 30 foot, and likely a 40 foot plus, face on it.  Something like this has never been done at night.

This is what Visser had to say about his epic ride: “It wasn’t until I saw the pictures [that] I realized how big it was.  This was the scariest, but most exciting thing I have ever done. Riding in complete darkness meant I had to go off feeling. I had to zone out from how you normally ride and be part of the wave.”

I’m not going to drive home the point made in this video, because it is just way too bad-ass, and you just need to take 7 minutes and watch it, probably more than once… but I will say this:

You can do whatever the hell you want, Be the Impossible.

    I’m surprised you haven’t read the Alchemist already. I’ve read it twice, just gave my copy to Blaine.

    Aki,

    I’ve seen the Will Smith clip several times and every time it makes me wanna run through the freakin wall if I see it as an obstacle between me and my dreams, but I’d never heard of Mark Visser and he ROCKS for tackling that wave at night no less. Great post and thanks for the reminder.
