PTN Review; The Gambling MLM

I really found this concept interesting when it came across my desk, so I just had to do a review on it.  PTN, short for Poker Training Network, truly is a unique concept with a very interesting product. They have created a unique product within network marketing, and have no competition.

The company is not a scam, they are near the ground floor, and it seems they have a decent management team.  Lets take a look at some of the elements of PTN, so you can make a decision for yourself as to whether or not this opportunity will be right for you.

One of the huge benefits of PTN is that they have first mover advantage in the marketplace.  Nobody else in Network Marketing is selling, or has ever sold Poker Education as a product.  The product appears to be revolutionary, and can improve the game of any poker player whether they are advanced, or just getting started.  Quite frankly, this is a company with a lot of “sex appeal.”

Lets face it, poker is a growing game, its fun, and a lot easier to talk to people about than the new vitamin that is going to “grow your arm back and add 3 inches to your….” well you get the point.  I have to admit, it would be a lot of fun to find as many poker games as I can and try to promote my company, and if the product does what it claims, I’d probably make money just from playing.

Just so you know, I wouldn’t recommend that as a Primary Marketing Technique, I just think it would be fun.  No matter what MLM company you are marketing for, you should be using a marketing system that works.  Getting drunk and playing poker, probably isn’t going to be the smartest approach.

PTN is at the ground floor.  Honestly, this can be a little bit scary sometimes, because ground floor companies often don’t make it.  I took a look into the management team of PTN and they are solid and have a lot of experience.  The only thing that would concern me here is that there are several members of the management team that are business people, and not necessarily network marketers.

I would want to know in detail what the long term vision for the company is from the company owners.  My brother was recently involved in a company that generated him a six figure income, and the owners decided they didn’t want to do network marketing anymore.  This isn’t the first time that has happened, and it won’t be the last.  PTN is probably same from this catastrophe, but I would do my research on this point before making the plunge.  I would also ask the following questions:

1. Is the company currently making a profit?

2. Who provides the funding for the company?  How much do they have?

3. The product is unique and there is first mover advantage, but what would stop someone from creating a “Me Too” Poker training product?

Montel Williams is a partner with the company and he is promoting it like crazy.  This is really cool if you are in the company because you can use this to promote your product, but if you are looking at joining because of this you ought to think twice.  Montel Williams is a great person and a very accomplished man; he is not however, a network marketer.

Professional network marketers make companies work, not celebrity endorsements. Celebrity endorsements are good, but it is necessary to understand the integrity of a company before diving full force into it.  You wouldn’t have a chess player teach you how to play basketball, so why listen to a TV celebrity about network marketing?  If you are building PTN, use his endorsement to your advantage, but understand it for what it is.

I’ve reviewed a lot of compensation plans, and I wasn’t terribly impressed with this one.  There is definitely a potential to make some money, but the comp plan seems to favor the higher-ups rather than rewarding the new guy trying to build his business.  So if you are going to build PTN, I suggest Mastering Proven Marketing Techniques and becoming a leader in your company.

In conclusion, I think PTN is a really great company on the outside, but again, its not my Top Pick. If you have an undying passion for poker, you love Montel Williams, and you are looking to bring your “A-Game” to to poker table, this might be the right company for you, and I suggest you go “All-In with PTN.” If you are going to be building PTN, or any other business in Network Marketing, you really need to listen to the free presentation in the link below, so you can learn the secrets of how the top internet marketers are exploding their business.

Nice article. I do want to clarify that PTN is not a “gambling” MLM. We market poker training interface. If it was about gambling, we couldn’t be doing this in the US. The management does have MLM experience, both from the field and in management. The funding is as solid as it can be. It is a great opportunity that is both fun and educational.

Like I said Ellie, I do think PTN is a good company. There is a lot of MLM experience in the management, but there is also a lot of traditional corporate leadership heading the team. Time will tell the tale, I wish you the best of luck with it.

  2. We think it’s so beneficial for you to do these reviews of other companies to just give some input, being that you’re so knowledgeable in this field. Love your honesty and approach. Anyone looking to get into network marketing needs to pay attention to what you have to offer. You’re a stellar leader Aki! Thanks!

Thanks guys. I do wish success to anyone trying to accomplish their dreams with this industry. Though I do believe I have found the best company within the network marketing niche, one opportunity is not going to “Fit” everyone.

I just like to provide information for anyone trying to make an informed decision.

Great Review About PTN Review. Yes its kind of scary to be in a company that is ground floor and Owners have no MLM experience. Good point about how a company can eliminate the MLM model without notice just like they did to ILearning Global and Efusjion recently.

Aki, this is a very fair post on PTN. The ground floor aspect is always risky, and when you couple that with being in the education/training niche, which has traditionally been a poor performer in MLM, it makes me less inclined to consider this one, and I love poker :)

Aki, I just came across PTN tonight. As a former pro poker player, this company obviously interested me greatly. It actually inspired a blog post that should be up shortly comparing and contrasting poker and mlm. In my experience I am amazed at the lack of interest in general (from my own experiences i said) that poker players have for building a business that could build a huge bankroll to play in the big buy-in games in tournaments. Nice, fair review, and I even though I love poker, Im sticking to gold and silver for my business!Keep Rockin Aki
