The 90 Day Challenge

I went to the Gym on January 1st and had to park all the way around the corner. New years resolutions are great aren’t they?  Many people get all Hyped up to make a change, and 2 weeks later, life kicks in, excuses pile up, and the bulk of the masses are back to doing the same thing they did last year.

It’s sad, but the good news is that it won’t be long before I’ll be able to find good parking at the gym.   I’ve been thinking about this challenge since well before the New Year, but was still moving and not ready to implement it… and since it was so close to 2011, I decided to pick a time that most people would be “In the Mood.”

Lets band together, not be like the masses, and stick to our commitments.

Why 90 days? Well, there are a lot of reasons, here are a few:

  • I know from experience, observation, and reading that you can transform your body in 90 days with consistency and dedication to a Healthy Diet and exercise.  Take for instance P90X, it’s a 90 day program.  Body for life came out 10 years ago, it’s a 120 day program, but trust me, 90 days of it will change you.
  • A good friend of mine went to AA and informed me that research shows that it is around day 90 of sobriety that people really begin to gain control of their addiction (Whether they keep that control is determined by their future behavior).
  • It takes about 90 days of consistency to start to become proficient in any new skill set. I was taught this years ago and have found it to be a good general rule of thumb.
  • Why Not 90? Hell, if you don’t like it, pick another number, the point is let’s go out there and make 2011 the best year of our lives!

I’ll be leading by example; one of the reasons I am writing this and posting it on my blog is that I am not just going to be accountable to myself with a list of resolutions written in a journal, and kept in my closet.  I am now accountable to all of you, and I’ll be reporting my progress here on this blog once a month.

There is nothing like a public declaration to make one obliged to keep their commitments.

Here is my 90 day challenge for myself; yours should reflect your goals and desires for yourselves.

  1. At least one new piece of online marketing material 6 days a week for the 3 month period. If you want to get free leads online, they work via the compounding effect.  Just like working out, you won’t see leads right away, but as the amount of your material increases, so does the chance of it landing on the right set of eyes.  A lot of people market for a month and expect to be a guru, or wonder why the 5 articles and 3 videos they produced aren’t getting them any leads.   HMMMMMMM…… I Wonder….
  2. 90 days of No Drinking. I’ve got about 400 personal stories as to why this is a Really Good Idea for me; I’ll just leave it at that for now.
  3. 6 days a week of intense workouts. I like being in shape, and historically I have been.  For some reason I let myself slide a bit over the last few months, and I am going to get it back.
  4. Before the end of this 3 month period, I will have a local meeting running for my primary Network Marketing Company, and I will continue to keep it running.  Online Marketing is great, but it will never fully replace the Belly to Belly marketing in this business.  MLM has been and will always be a relationship based business.
  5. 1 hour a day, or more, playing with and educating my Kids. I’ve got a 4 year old and a 1 year old, and I want to make sure that I’m the best Dad for them that I can be.  I always play with them, but I want to make sure that I focus more on their education as well… and, I’m going to be doing a Big Push with my Business, and I want to make sure my Family always comes first.
  6. Develop a System for consistent Local Exposures, and implement it by the time I begin my Weekly Meeting. I know this is a vague commitment, but there are a few schools of thought on the best approach to this, and I don’t want to commit to something that I decide to change.  The point is that Local Marketing works just like the online world in that Consistent Exposures, Compounded over an extended period of time produces Quantifiable Results. The point is that I am going to be building my local market, and I recommend that anyone with the ability to do so, not to Ignore the Goldmine in their Backyard.
  7. Email my list, at least once a day, 6 days a week for 90 days. Emailing your list every day will annoy them, and make them unsubscribe, right?  No, not really, I’ll get into the details of this in another post, but for now it is enough to say that lists that hear from you more often buy more.
  8. 90 Days of Untrimmed Beard. That’s right, not only am I going to keep my beard for the next 90 days, but I’m not going to trim it either(well, except for my mustache, my lover gets frustrated when she is kissing strands of hair, and frankly it becomes difficult to eat when one is accidentally chewing on stray mustache hairs).  There is a less than 1% chance I will back out on this one; I am looking to at least grow this baby until my birthday on March 27thWhy?  Because beards are awesome, and I believe every man should take a moment out of trying to “Look Professional,” and find out what it felt like to groom like a Caveman.  Why would God have given man the gift of beard if he didn’t intend us to use it? Shame on you Corporate America, for trying to deny us our manhood.  The Race to the Waist is on… Who’s up for the challenge? Well… Maybe not to the waist, but at least till the end of March…

The great thing about this challenge is that it doesn’t matter if you run into this on the first of the year, or the middle of May.  Anytime there is anything we truly want to change in our lives, we can map out a plan and make it happen.

Lets go out there and take 2011 by storm!

I’m out of the race to the waist by default. However,,, I opt to not let my guy participate,,, not that he would want to. Just sayin, while beards are epic and can house sparrows and other small forest creatures,,, they’re kinda icky.

Your just Jealous because you can’t grow one. If he were a real man he would grow it regardless of what you thought. LMAO…

…Personally I am hoping for a nest of squirrels.

  2. Your goals are very admirable Aki and we believe you WILL be successful in accomplishing them.We especially love the goal of educating your children more.Family is the most important thing and time well spent is the best gift of all. We believe in you! We also believe in ourselves and what we’re capable of. Publicly announcing goals are a great way to not only hold ourselves accountable but for others to help us as well. We listed a few of our goals on your post.. http://akiwood.com/where-the-hell-is-aki/#comments, but would like to add that we will be hosting at least 1 PBR a month in addition to talking to 5 people a day each about our business.
