Vicious Thieves Destroy The Internet: Protect Your Articles

Focusing My Anger: I waited until I wasn’t quite as mad to write this; that way it could be a little bit more objective.  Somebody stole something from me, and I’m pretty pissed.

Business is meant to be performed with ethics, particularly in the Network Marketing arena.  For the moment, I am going to give the person that stole from me the benefit of the doubt, and not post the link to their site showing exactly who they are or what happened, but I am going to tell the story, because there are valuable points in it that everyone that is marketing online needs to understand.

Duplication Does Not Mean Theft. In one of my rants here on my blog, I told a story, about my kids and I, to prove a point that could help and inspire people.  Apparently, there was at least one person that thought it was a great story; they changed a few words in the article to make it sound like it was their experience, and posted it on their blog, and took credit for it.

If you know anything about article marketing, you know this: Post your material in as many places as possible, so you can back-link the original article, rank higher on google, and reach a wider audience(keep reading for more key tips on this, and how to avoid some costly errors).

Article Marketing Robot, has the best software that I am aware of to make this task as simple, and effective as possible, and it is relatively inexpensive. If you have a blog, you should at least be syndicating your material when you create it so that you can maximize your efforts.

Before you re-post your articles it is a good idea to spin them for SEO purposes. This basically means re-writing them so you are not penalized in the search engines.  It is one more reason that getting Article Submission Software is a good idea, because it will spin your articles for you and save you a lot of time.  I’m actually guilty of not spinning my stuff as often as I should; it’s a bad habit that has cost me traffic and free leads.

A hundred great articles sitting on one site with no back-links virtually makes your website like an island sitting in the middle of the ocean.

If you have a website, and don’t have an article submission program, you should Click Here Now. Trust me, I am speaking from experience.  I got really behind on syndicating my content, just listen to the problem this is causing me as we speak:

I got suspended from the number 1 article site on the internet. Behold my surprise when I go to submit the most original content you can imagine, a true life story about my Kids and I that had a great secret of success wrapped into it… did my article get approved? No, I got suspended from the article site for Plagiarism.   There was an article on another website that took my blog post a few days after I published it, and posted it as their own.

Imagine that… being accused of Plagiarism for submitting an article that was my own personal experience.

As I stated Earlier, Duplication Does not Mean Theft. I can understand where the error could have been unintentional.  How many times have network marketers heard the advice, “If you want to be successful, find a successful person and copy what they are doing.” This statement is true, but it needs to be understood for what it is.

First of all, the laws of duplication are completely different on the internet. Having a good internet presence is smart anyone that is doing network marketing.  There are Systems out there that can be a great way to learn the basics, and many of the advanced techniques that are required to create a name for yourself. If used properly, many of these techniques will even increase your off-line marketing efforts.

The truth is that if you are ever going to make it big online, you have to be original. That’s what attraction marketing is all about, being yourself, and attracting people to you.

Let me be clear, this doesn’t mean you need to reinvent the wheel, but it does mean that your article or video marketing should involve an element of research.

How To Steal Someone’s Material and Make Them Happy About It. Everybody that markets online loves a quality back-link, it helps gives a website credibility, and increases your own credibility by showing that you are using ethics in your marketing.  If you are taking the material from a blog, I recommend contacting the person that runs the blog first, but either way, if you decide to run some of their material, give them credit for the article, and link back to their website to spread the love.

Another way to do this is to go to one of the major article directories like Ezine Articles.  From many of the article directories, you can re-post the article on your own site if you Keep the title, author name, body and resource box intact.  In Ezine, this is under the article in a box labled, “Share This Article.” Click on the Ezine Publisher Tab and follow the instructions.

I don’t personally do that, but if you are really hurting for content, or are seriously strapped for time and cash, it could be an option for you.

Your Best Options For Quality Content. There are several good ways to do this, here are 2:

  1. Pay someone else to write your articles for you. I honestly don’t know a lot about this, because I write my own.  Some people don’t like to write, and that’s fine.  It won’t take you long to do a google search to find someone that is willing to write something for you.
  2. Create Original Work. This is a lot easier than you might think, it just involves a few minutes of your time.  If you have a specific subject you want to write about, do a little bit of research on the topic.  Take some notes, gather your own opinions and philosophies on the subject, and then start writing.  Reading positive books on a daily basis will also give your subconscious material for instant inspiration.

Taking other people’s stuff word for word just makes you look stupid. There are several things wrong with this:

  1. It is illegal. Copyrighting laws gives ownership to people when they create something, whether it has been formally copyrighted or not.  People have the legal right to come after you if you take their material and post it as your own without giving them credit.
  2. It is unethical. When someone else works hard for something and you take it, what does that say about your character?  Would you want to work with someone that was doing that?
  3. It makes you look stupid. If any of your readers discover what you are doing, your credibility will go below zero.  You only have one reputation; guard it with integrity!
  4. It decreases your Sex Drive. Modern research shows that stealing other peoples articles will eventually make you impotent… Ok, I made that up, but if I ran things it totally would.
  5. And Many More…

A Possible Exception: If you are in a Network Marketing company, and someone in your direct up-line creates a great piece of content, they probably won’t mind if you use it to get leads.  After all, your success is their success.  Cross-line=Not OK, Upline=Maybe OK, but you should still probably get permission.

The closest thing to this I have personally done was I re-cut a video my up-line did, said it in my own words,  added my own two sense, and posted it.  The funniest part about it is that it was honestly one of my worst rants.  It probably would have been a great piece of content if I had read a couple of other reputable blog posts on the subject, and told my findings back in my own words!

Your best practice for creating quality content is going to be to reading more than one article on the subject, and delivering the material from your own point of viewCreating original, quality blog posts or articles is really very simple. If you find something that speaks to you, or inspires you, read a few more articles on the subject, and write your findings and feelings in your own words, or cut a video about it.  When you are done, Spin your article and send it to the article directories for back-links.

Now, you can laugh all the way to the bank with a clear conscience.

I got re-instated, but it wasted a good deal of my time, which is valuable to me.

Dude, this is bullshit. I would have totally outted the person that did it. Especially if I were marked for plagiarism for my own article.

Yeah, it is total bullshit, and I thought about posting the links to both of the posts and sticking it to the guy, but I don’t want or need the negative attention. It’s actually really easy to handle with the high road, but it has definitely been a pain in my ass. At least I got to use his stupidity to teach a valuable lesson.
